Pure Indulgence on My Part - sorry

I can only recommend that you pursue the faster, original version of 'Ace of Spades' and thereby begin to live. By the way 2010 is the 35th anniversary of Motorhead and this January 2011 the new feature length documentary Lemmy: The Movie is on release - "I really like this jacket but the sleeves are much too long..." Welcome to the Funny Farm

Chroma Key and Lighting

The Lighting and Chroma Keying in this piece worked really well on TV - almost fooled me at the time. The blue screen doesn't work so well on the small screen but you can see how effective the lighting set-ups for the studio set are.

Also a very ironic 'joke' by Mr Gervais...

AT-AT Day Afternoon by Patrick Boivin

Beautiful little film. Try to figure out how it was done and then watch the 'Making of' below...

Check out the edits

There are some stunning shots, transition sequences and editing effects in this Kiteboarding film by Andy Gordon, starring Aaron Hadlow...shame about the dialogue but the sound track makes up for it (Tool)

Wierdest Site - You have to try it...

Please try out this site:

http://www.donniedarkofilm.com/

It has been up and running for years now, it is the official Donnie Darko site. It is not your regular film site, it is an interactive journey and possibly more challenging and atmospheric than the film...something of an achievement.

Sweet...recommended

Giving up on Vimeo

I am now officially giving-up on adding Vimeo video on this blog, as I am getting disheartened (polite way of putting it) with the amount of blank white spaces where there should be inspirational material. So until they get their act together, keep watching those big white monoliths for a resurrection.

The Tao of The Big Lebowski - The Way of the Wayward

Life imitating Art. The Big Lebowski is a film by The Cohen Brothers which features a character called The Dude. The film has a rambling but charming narrative, similar in nature to it's protagonist who is "a lazy man, quite possibly the laziest in Los Angele's County". The film's engaging nature has resulted in the development of a pseudo 'belief system' (system might be pushing it) called Dudeism, which promotes 'Taking it Easy'.

The Significance of the Teaching of Joseph Campbell in Story-Telling & Movie-Making

How Campbell influenced the structure of the Matrix narrative.

How Campbell's concept of 'Bliss' influenced the life choices & work of George Lucas.

This is Joseph Campbell talking with some students. His life-long interest was in discovering how the myths and stories of different cultures around the world are actually all the same, and in helping people to understand the huge importance that these stories have in our cultures and lives.

The Future Now

Writers, artists and film-makers create the blue print for the future.
A massive interactive screen, similar to the one envisaged in Minority Report has been developed by the Display Wall laboratory at the Department of Computer Science, University of Tromsø located in Northern Norway.

The Display Wall lab is home to a 22 megapixel display wall, constructed from 28 projectors and driven by a display cluster of about 30 nodes (28 to do the actual graphics, and another few to do other tasks). Each projector creates a 1024x768 resolution image, which when tiled together with the others form a 7168x3072 resolution display.

The Cat Piano by The People's Republic of Animation

The Cat Piano from PRA on Vimeo.

The Cat Piano is an 8-minute short film by The People’s Republic of Animation, co-directed by Eddie White and Ari Gibson, and produced by Jessica Brentnall. The story is told in the form of a poem written by Eddie White, which is narrated by iconic Australian artist Nick Cave.

The film’s graphic 2D look is achieved by animating the entire film by hand in Adobe Photoshop, drawing with Wacom tablets directly into the computer. This highly versatile technique of animation is quickly becoming a signature style of The People’s Republic of Animation.

The Clash Lasts

Class lasts (As a statement of 'cool', baseball caps on backwards didn't)

The music video for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was the first for director Samuel Bayer. Bayer believes he was hired because his test reel was so poor the band anticipated his production would be "punk" and "not corporate."Cobain disliked Bayer's final edit and personally oversaw a re-edit of the video that resulted in the version finally aired. One of Cobain's major additions was the next-to-last shot of the video, which was a close-up of his own face after it had been obscured for most of the video. Bayer noted that unlike subsequent artists he worked with, Cobain did not care about vanity, rather that "the video had something that was truly about what they were about."
